Yellowtail Fishing West Palm Beach With Capt. Neil and Capt. Tara
Capt. Neil Linkmeyer ·

Yellowtail fishing West Palm Beach style is bottom fishing close to home. Palm Beach is one of the few places on the Atlantic where the bottom falls away almost at the jetty. Blue water is ten minutes out. On top you have sailfish, mahi, blackfin and kings. Underneath you have grouper, mutton and yellowtail. Yellowtail snapper live around the reefs, the artificial wrecks and the bottom relief off Palm Beach Inlet, and that is where we go looking for them. It suits people who want to bring fish home for dinner. It suits mixed groups where some people want to troll and some want to drop a line to the bottom. It also suits anyone who would rather spend the morning fishing than riding in a boat. You clear the inlet, the rods go out, and you are fishing, not still running.
When is the season? I will be straight with you. I am not going to put months on this page, because the honest answer depends on the year and the water. Yellowtail snapper are on our list of target species, and two of our trips are built around the bottom where they live. If you have dates in mind, call and ask. Capt. Neil or Capt. Tara will tell you on the phone how the yellowtail fishing looks for your week, and which trip makes the most sense for it.
Two trips list yellowtail by name. The first is Offshore, five hours. It leaves at 8:00 AM, runs 5 hours, takes up to 5 guests, and costs $750 for the boat. We troll the rips for kings and pelagics, then drop weighted rigs into the bottom relief for mutton snapper, grouper and yellowtail, whichever the day is giving up. We call it best odds, mixed bag. The second is Twilight wrecks. It leaves at 5:00 PM, runs 3 hours, takes up to 5 guests, and costs $550 for the boat. We fish the same reefs and artificial wrecks as the light goes, right as the evening feed switches on, for mutton and yellowtail snapper, grouper and kingfish. Every trip includes rods, reels, terminal tackle, bait and your Florida licence. Neil cleans and fillets your catch before you leave.
The boat is a 2024 24' Sea Pro center console. It is a private boat. On the trips above you are not sharing it with strangers. Your group has the whole thing. The captains are a father and daughter, Capt. Neil Linkmeyer and his daughter Capt. Tara. Both are captains. You work the rods, Neil and Tara work the fish. That means they handle the setup, the spots and the decisions about where to drop, and you get to do the fishing. The extra hour on the five hour trip is the one that lets Neil change his mind and move to where the fish are biting that day.
We leave from 900 Blue Heron Blvd in West Palm Beach. That puts you right by Palm Beach Inlet, so there is no long ride before the fishing starts. Morning yellowtail trips leave at 8:00 AM. The twilight trip leaves at 5:00 PM. Once everyone is aboard, we head out the inlet. Because the bottom drops so close to the jetty, the lines go in soon after we clear it. The areas we fish cover West Palm Beach, Riviera Beach, Palm Beach, Singer Island, Jupiter and the rest of Palm Beach County. If you are not sure how early to show up or where to park, ask when you book and we will tell you.
What to bring is a short list, because most of it is already on the boat. Rods, reels, terminal tackle, bait and your Florida licence are provided. Neil fillets your catch at the end, so you go home with fish ready to cook. Anything beyond that, like what to wear, what to eat on board or how to carry your fillets home, is worth a quick question to the captain when you call. They will tell you what makes sense for the trip you picked.
Do I need a fishing license? No. Your Florida licence is included on the boat with every trip. You do not need to buy one before you come. Just show up and fish.
Can I be sure we will catch yellowtail? No one can promise that, and we will not. Yellowtail are one of the fish we target on the bottom, along with mutton snapper and grouper. On the five hour trip we fish for whichever the day is giving up. If you have your heart set on yellowtail, tell the captain when you book so they know what you are after.
How many people can come, and can I come on my own? Offshore, five hours and Twilight wrecks each take up to 5 guests, priced for the whole boat. If it is just you or a pair, there is also A seat on the drift. It is $200 per angler, 3 hours, leaving at 8:00 AM, with three seats, controlled drifts over coastal ledges and cut bait down deep. It has a minimum of two, so call the captain to check how a single angler fits in.
